CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Machining is a deductive procees by which a computer controlled machine cuts material away from a blank or an existing part.
Machines controlled and operated by CNC software programs can run unattended making maufufacturing more cost effective. Once the human operator has programmed the machine and provided for a supply of raw material as needed, they are then free to pursue another function.
CNC machining is more precise than human-operated machining. While the operator adjusts the setting of the machine by manual methods, the CNC program does cuts according to its program. This allows for complicated machining to be done repetitively and each finished product will be identical. This can continue for runs of hundreds or thousands of finished products. In addition, machines can cut anything from wood, foam and plastic to aluminum and steel. |
